Hey there! I don't know what happened with my life but I've completely forgot about this blog, not that it really matters but I like doing it. I got a few books to write about since the last time and let's hope I'm more regular from now on, although I know that's not gonna happen.
Hey there!
I bought this book in London when I went with one of my friends to Nothing Hill, we went inside a second hand bookstore and, although I'm not into second hand items because I've no idea where those things come from and how clear or not they are, I bought one that was pretty new, cheap and looked interesting.
This is the second book of a saga so I have no previous knowledge of the characters or the plot when it comes to the whole series but I might try to find the first book and read it.

What I like about this book:
- The plot:
- The plot:
Let me start by saying that the plot is not a bad one, at first glance it looks as something that would keep you stuck to the book until you finish it but it's not exactly like that.
- Antagonists:
I think that one of the two things that really made like this book was, for starters, the antagonists. I like how the writer tells you their backstory and weaknesses and in doing it he makes them more human, they're not just the bad guys, there is a reason why they act the way they do, it's not just because there must be someone to oppose the protagonist.
- History:
The other thing I really liked, although it was still lacking a bit, was the whole historic context. Maybe it's because I really like Egyptian history and mythology but I thought it was a good point to explain the origin of some objects, legends, etc, that were important for the story. I would have loved a lot more of that, but I'm not complaining.

What I dislike about this book:
- Protagonists:
I understand the logic behind it but I don't like when they make the main characters too perfect. I get that a "normal character" wouldn't be able to be in certain situations or wouldn't get out of them so the main character must have some qualities that would not just make him live some kind of adventures but also be able to survive them, but the fact that they have every single quality and know everything they need to know, makes them too surreal. Even in real life, people that are considered heroes are imperfect, and yes, that real life and nobody's perfect in real life but even on a fantasy novel you want to feel that the characters could exist out of the book, if you know what I mean.
- Love stoy:
Am I ever going to like a love story in a book? Maybe, but this is not gonna be the one. I thought it was totally unnecessary, it didn't add anything to the plot, it wasn't something you wanted to know more about, I wouldn't even call it a love story, it was more like sporadic sex or "friends with benefits". It wasn't needed and it didn't even give dimension to the characters. Thanks, but no thanks.
- Hard to get into it:
The beginning of the book looked nice but when you are done reading two or three chapters you don't want to keep reading. It isn't until probably half of the book that it starts getting really interesting.
- Deus ex machina:
Usually I don't like this resource, this is not an exception. There is a sisterhood that appears at the novel just to save the main characters life, which wasn't even really necessary, there would have been another option to save the day without introducing this element in the story, mostly because they only appear a couple of times and then they completely disappear. At the epilogue they appear again which makes me think that it's because they might appear again in future books of the saga.

* * *
Even though I always complain a lot it doesn't mean I dislike the book, this one was okay, it was a "Indiana Jones" kind of novel and I like that genre but it could have been done much much better.
